New research has led to the development of a procedure that will allow teeth to be moved approximately 4 times faster than ever thought possible with conventional orthodontic treatment (braces). As a result, orthodontic treatment can be reduced to three to eight months. This new procedure combines orthodontics and oral surgery. The procedure is feasible for most patients regardless of their age as long as their adult teeth are present.
Most conventional orthodontic therapy requires 1-1/2 to 3 years to complete. AOO uses the dynamics of bone physiology to redirect tooth movement so that the surrounding bone responds to orthodontic forces rather that just the surrounding teeth. By stimulating and harnessing the potentials of bone, the teeth can be made to move through bone very rapidly. After the tooth movement is complete, the bone around the roots of the teeth will rebuild itself.
